Peugeot Touareg (1996)
The Peugeot Touareg was a far-out proposal for an electric powered 4×4.
The 859 kg (1874 lb) Touareg concept was motivated by a mid-mounted 1855 volt electric motor which developed 144 ft-lbs of torque at 1500 rpm. This unit gave the concept a 70 mph top speed and 300 km range.
The bulbous moon-buggy styling of the Peugeot Touareg was enhanced by the use of innovative 18″ wheels which seemed to meld the wheel into the tire.
The two-seat passenger compartment of the concept is housed in a carbon frame, the body is formed from moulded plastic.

Peugeot Asphalte (1996)
The Peugeot Asphalte is a concept designed purely for the sports car enthusiast.

The Asphalte’s unusual tapering body with inset rear wheels was originally intended to house three wheels, however to improve performance and reliability the designers added a fourth. Consequently the Asphalte is the only car in the world which when viewed from behind, reveals its four wheels.

Peugeot designed the Asphalte to magnify the driving experience and as such the concept sits just centimeters from the floor, and the passengers are protected by only a small wind deflector.

The Asphalte’s interior makes room for either a driver and passenger or just the driver – the passenger seat can be hidden. The driver has full adjustment over the steering wheel and pedals to make the interior feel even more like a cockpit.

Almost 10 years after the Asphalte appeared, Peugeot revived the spirit of the concept with the 2005 concept Peugeot 20 Cupseen at the Frankfurt Auto Show. A true three wheeler with more than a hint of Asphalte style.

Peugeot Ion (1994)
Unveiled at the Mondial de l’Automobile in 1994, the Ion was a proposal for a future four-seat electric vehicle intended for use in urban areas with heavy traffic. The four doors were opened by leaning on a sensitive area on the rear wing; a solution Peugeot claimed would soon replace the problems of fiddling around with keys while holding shopping bags. With a lively yellow glaze and wheels positioned at the four corners, the Ion was also dubbed the fruit of Peugeot’s concept car line-up

Peugeot Oxia (1988)
Named after Oxia Palus, a zero-latitude zero-longitude area on Mars, the Oxia was designed and created by stylists at Peugeot’s La Garenne research center in France, the Oxia was powered by a 680-horsepower transversely-mounted V6 engine, and had a top speed of over 200 miles per hour. The exterior was made of carbon fiber, Kevlar, and epoxy-resin composite bonded to aluminum honeycomb and sheet panels, giving the car a light weight and superb handling. A communications center, equipped with a computer, display screen, radio, and telephone, controlled the interior climate and provided travel data and navigational information. The radio/telephone also provided information on upcoming routes and destinations. The air conditioning system, controlled by computers, ensured the selected temperature and airflow were maintained regardless of external conditions affecting the car. When the car stopped, the system withdrew power from eighteen solar cells to maintain airflow through the passenger compartment.

Peugeot Proxima (1986)
The wild-styled two-seat Proxima was characterized by is rear wheel covers nearly separated from the rest of the body, and the almost non-existent front and rear overhangs. The Proxima’s power unit was a twin-turbo V6 engine outputting 600 horsepower. The four-wheel-drive system was automatically activated after an on-board computer sensed rear wheel spin. The tire pressure was then monitored and restored automatically. The backward-sliding glass canopy revealed a bright red scarlet interior, including a navigational system and a rear-vision monitor display connected to a rear-mounted camera. Five color displays were installed for driver and passenger use.

Peugeot Quasar (1984)
Premiering at the 1984 Paris Auto Show, the Quasar was a sporty two-seater with a low profile and a large glass area. The 600-horsepower 4-cylinder twin-turbo inline engine and four-wheel-drive system were fully visible from the rear. Inside, under the transparent dome, sat a one-piece full-width dashboard supported by the transmission tunnel. The stereo system and controls were housed on the passenger side. The dashboard and seats were finished in bright red leather. All digital instrumentation included transflective liquid crystals to provide optimum legibility day or night. A CRT monitor in the center of the vertical console served as a navigational system, a warning message display, and sent and received telex messages.
